Evander

--------------------------

The web site of Evander Mauhar Edwards. My dad is Chris [XED's stupid
gif] and my mom is America . This site will be about me.

I was born on Thursday November 20, 2003. This was exactly a week later than expected and my mom was happy to finally see me. I am a Scorpio, although I don't believe in that stuff and am not likely to. I was born at the Birth Center at the Hillcrest branch of the UCSD hospital in San Diego, the same hospital my mom was born in. I was born at 7:08 AM after being in labor most of the night. --------------------------

I have been the center of attention for quite a while and there are a lot of photos involving me. Seriously, there wouldn't be any more pictures of me if I was a NASA project. To look at all of them requires a substantial time investment. You can start seeing highlights of the collection here. Or you can browse the complete collection indexed here.

If you've already seen old photos, you might want to just go to the latest photos (updated 1/26/04).
There are actually some pictures of me that were taken before I was born. If you like that kind of thing, check out my sonogram images.

March 8, 2004 - Special Treat for Van Fans! In honor of grandpa Stuart's birthday, Chris and America have made a pretty big (8,879kB) video file available. This is a QuickTime movie file and should work great for Apple friendly people like the Edwards family.

-------------------------- Chances are good that I'm bigger than you were when you were my age; I was born with a mass of 4661g (10#4.4oz) and a length of 57cm (22.5").

Here's a graph to help you put that in persective.

A lot of people ask about my name. To people of my parent's generation, my name reminds one of former heavy-weight boxing champion, Evander Holyfield. Despite being a heavyweight champion baby, my name has nothing to do with the boxer. The 1911 Encyclopedia says this:

EVANDER (Gr. good man ), in Roman legend, son of Mercury and Carmenta, or of Echemus, king of Arcadia. According to the story, Evander left the Arcadian town of Pallantion about sixty years before the Trojan War and founded Pallanteum or Palatium on the hill afterwards called the Palatine. This is only one of the many Greek legends adopted by the Romans for the purpose of connecting places in Italy with others of likesounding name in Greece. To Evander was attributed the introduction of Greek rites and customs into his new country; of writing, music and other arts; of the worship of Pan (called Faunus by the Italians) and the festival of Lupercalia. In Virgil he receives Aeneas hospitably, and assists him against Turnus. Probably Evander was identical with the god Faunus (the favorer ), and the tale of his Arcadia origin was due to the desire to establish connection with Greece; the name of his reputed mother (or wife) Carmenta is genuinely Italian.
